FIJI Gas has expanded its gas storage capacity at its depot in Lautoka as part of a $5million expansion, says chief executive officer, Harvie Probert.

Mr. Probert said the company saw potential for increasing its market share in Lautoka and surrounding areas. He said the sales of LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) in Lautoka and the area they served from there went up by eight per cent last year.

Mr. Probert said LPG fuelled appliances and equipment for most industrial, commercial and domestic uses.

The $5million project involved the installation of five new 250-tonne tanks-two at the company's Wailada Depot in Lami and three at the depot at Waterfront Road in Lautoka.

Lautoka mayor Rohit Kumar officially commissioned the three new tanks on Tuesday afternoon.

"The people of Lautoka welcome the decision by Fiji Gas to more than double the gas storage capacity of this depot from 500 tonnes to 1250 tonnes," he said.

"What we celebrate today sends a very good signal about the future prospects for Lautoka from a company that has been part of our community for more than 50 years."
